DDRC Early Intervention Services
(Early Childhood Connections)
At DDRC we believe that families are the most important resource that can be used to enhance a child’s development. As part of Early Childhood Connections in Jefferson, Clear Creek, Gilpin and Summit Counties, Early Intervention services are designed to promote development, as well as to enhance the capacity of families to support their child’s well-being. Services are provided in natural settings using the transdisciplinary model. This model is an approach to intervention which is based on the premise that one person can perform the roles of other professionals by providing services to the child under the on-going guidance of the individuals from the other disciplines involved. Although one to two team members will be the primary provider(s), they have access to all of the disciplines through ongoing communication and consultations as deemed appropriate. A service coordinator is assigned to each family and helps the family develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), which will focus on the family’s priorities for their child.
DDRC has an employed Early Intervention Team that works closely with community partners to provide quality services at no cost to the families. We also have approximately 40 contractors that we work with to provide services. The Early Intervention Team routinely participates in professional trainings to improve their therapy skills and the director of the program provides oversight to ensure quality services are provided. We also have a lending library that enables us to loan toys, books, videos and therapy equipment out to families for their use.
A critical window for development is during the first three years of a child’s life. Therefore, the earlier the services are provided in a child’s life, the greater the impact these services and supports can have.
